I'm looking for some good games in which you can be evil. Preferably games which play with this idea well, and actually implement it to some degree. It doesn't just have to be RPGs with evil choices and evil endings. It could also include strategy games like Civ for example, in which you could choose to run a slave-driving, intollerent all-conquering civilization.

I can't say that it will work for you. But for me the Steam version works great on Windows 7. It's also amazingly cheap at £5.99. Or better yet £9.99 for both Deus Ex and Invisible War.

To start with I'd go for something like: GRID, DIRT 1, 2 and 3, SHIFT 1 and 2, maybe TOCA 3 if you don't mind it's age. F1 2010 if you like Formula 1.

Then, if you want something more realistic, simulation like, then: rFactor, GTR 2 and so forth.

That's great news. I'd thought Rockstar had completely given up on the PC. That also bodes well for GTA V.

I was going to buy a new Xbox, so I could play LA Noire, as well as the "proper" version of FIFA 12. Seems both problems have been solved in the last few days! :)

That's a great shame that you guys disliked Oblivion. Perhaps you expected too much from it, or expected it to be something it's not?

You're missing out on a fantastic game, Oblivion is one of my favorite games and I've spent so many happy hours playing it. I also enjoyed Morrowind by the way, but never tried to compare the two games, I didn't really see the point. They are both different but brilliant games.

It's not sci-fi, but Jade Empire is a great RPG that plays exactly like KOTOR. It's in the same engine, has the same conversation system and so on.

Other than the Mass Effect games, I don't know of any other sci-fi space-opera RPGs, which is a shame.

It's so hard to chose just one, RPGs are easily my favorite genre.

I'd probably have to go for Planescape: Torment though. That game blew my mind around every turn, it's such a shame that we'll probably never see another game like that ever get made.

After Planescape: Torment, in no particular order: Baldur's Gate series, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series, Dragon Age series, Mass Effect series, Fallout series, Oblivion and Morrowind, Arcanum, Jade Empire. Probably more, but those are the ones that come straight to mind. Some truly great games there.

I've never managed to get into MMOs, I tried World of Warcraft on two seperate occasions and both times I really disliked the game, which is a shame.

In the future - Skyrim of course, is the big one. Otherwise: Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age 3, even though I don't like MMOs, I'm really interested in Star Wars: The old Republic.

I'm currently playing The Witcher and enjoying it, and looking forward to playing number two afterward.

This is the main reason I play games so this list may be long:

Best: Planescape: Torment
Deus Ex
Half-Life 2 + Eps
Baldur's Gate Series
KOTOR 1 and 2
Dragon Age
Mass Effect 1+2
Stalker games
Neverwinter Nights 1 +2
Fallout 1, 2 and 3
GTA IV

Probably loads more, but that will do for now!

Unfortunately games aren't taken seriously yet by most people and most of the media; mostnon-gamers still seem to think they are silly, simple toys for kids. Games and the industry are maturing fast and the only way it's going to earn the respect it deserves is through the games and the companies themselves. It seems if a modern game contains any hint of controversy e.g. No Russians or Hot Coffee, then it gets blown out of all proportion by the media and non-gamers. The other two main mass-media types - films and books have been portraying all manners of controversial subjects and not always to send a message or make a point, but these forms of media have been around long enough to be respected and taken seriously. It seems we still have a while to go before games are considered alongside those two.

With regards to the No Russians level, I'm not sure what to make of it. I can see it being useful for storytelling purposes and to tug on your emotions. But on the other hand the developers would have known it would have outraged people and I feel they may have even used it as a marketing ploy. For me personally the game wouldn't have been any better or worse without that level. But in a way I think we need a few games like this now and then to push the boundaries of what's considered 'safe'. I look forward to the day when developers will have free reign to tell their stories in any way they wish, whether that requires something controversial or not, without fear of a media storm, and stores refusing to sell their product (Hot Coffee, GTA SA).
