[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"][QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"][QUOTE="R-Dot-Yung"]oh god you must be joking
Halo 3's story was non existent

No it was there, and it was a damn fine story, but it wasn't unlocked by heavy-handed storytelling. Halo's writing team took a dip after the first game.
It's the anti-thesis of a MGS game, where they'd spoonfeed you every single bit of information. There are a lot of things in Halo where events happen that you can easily ignore if all you're ever doing is just shooting the next bad guy.
Perfectly said. (Though I thought Bungie greatly improved with Halo 2 when it came to storytelling. Sure, it was dissapointing, but the story seemed so much more complex and more immersive then what I expected to be honest. Halo 3 went back to Halo 1 roots and kept it rather simple, I thought)Nah storytelling is different from story. You can have great storytelling and a mediocre story (Half Life, maybe Half Life 2), and you can have crap storytelling and a good story (Halo 2, 3, and a whole host of adventure games).
Yeah Halo 3 just went for the whole Master Chief/Cortana angle. Everything else took a backseat. It may have worked well, but then certain events were affected severely, such as Keyes' and Johnson's deaths.
i think you have it backwards for hl2 and halo. hl2 crap story but told well??? no way. the unlikely hero thats the average guy is waaaay greater than the genetically altered super soldier space marine bull crap. hl2 is just so much more deep and epic, the mystery of the gman. the conflict with the combine, the oppression. its just such a wonderful story. halo is some aliens invading earth and a super marine stopping them
