Far more failures. It's just that XBox fans have been running with blinders on since 2010 and tend to bias towards only things that are stupidly successful. Probably why, at the end of the day, there really aren't a whole lot of them. Real gamers do all the experimenting, conservibone players show up late to the party and pretend to be well dressed.
Sea of Thieves, itself, is a victim of this consumerist mentality. MS thought they could swim in the wake of all the rest of the democratized bare-bones MP games. You find about a million or so gullibles to stick around for something like this and promise them the moon just around the corner. You piecemeal a game to them bit by bit and charge a premium for it. It prints money, even if it is bottom feeding off of the plebs of gaming. Less than a million, now? Heh! What are the chances that MS will pull the plug on this and possibly shut Rare down? I mean, who really wants to take the odds?
Good for you if that's your thing, but I've been playing MMOs since the original Everquest and know what content actually looks like.
