Wouldn't that definition disqualify games like The Witcher 2 as RPGs then?

Is ArmA considered a sim?
Nowdays hundreds of games like to call themselves RPGs because they have levelling, story choices, or open-ended sandbox world. Likewise when many games ( Mass Effect 2 , for example ) lose certain of their characteristics people argue they're not RPGs anymore.
Â
What exactly defines an RPG?
Â
Story choices and different endings? In that case, Mass Effect 2 would certainly qualify as RPG.
Is it creating your own character to follow any path you want? If so, even ME1 , which most people qualify as RPG, shouldn't be considered one.
Is it stats allocation and skill trees? In that case, would the likes of Path of Exile and Diablo be a "truer" RPG than ME2?
Â
Or is it a combination of all above? ( Dark Souls, Morrowind... )
Â
What makes a RPG, for you guys?
I don't get the Witcher 2. I don't really think it's a good computer RPG.. I don't really care how many noobs proclaim it the second coming of the genre. Most of them are little kids and don't really know much about RPGs. I've been playing PC RPGs since the days of Daggerfall and Ultima 7. the Witcher 2 isn't that good in my eyes.

I found it amazing due to the complex political driven plot, some extremly tough moral choices and gray characters.
Hadn't realised the thread was re-opened lol.

The Witcher 2 was easily one of the best games of 2011. I didn't find Foltest's death to be all that moving, but whatever. It is still quite a scene to behold.Â
I need to replay the damn thing. When is the sequel coming out again? 2014?

Something I found brilliant was how by the time of his death, Foltest was already a likeable enough character for his death to hurt. In a two-hour prologue, they managed to make me care a lot for a fictional character, gotta compliment CD Projekt for that.
Â
Yes, the sequel is coming in 2014.
For f*cks sake, the whole f*cking premise of the game is you've been charged with Foltest's murder. I knew this long before I had the opportunity to play the game. The game STARTS with you locked up in a dungeon because you "murdered" Foltest. It's revealed in the very prologue. Not to mention the game is two years old. Go troll somewhere else "OMG SPOILER" dudes. "You can get to kill
Henselt
" is a spoiler.Â

I realize I'm more than two years late but FINALLY got through playing The Witcher 2.Finally got a rig that can handle it. ( for some reason even my decent past rig couldn't )
It was worth the wait, loving every second of it. That army camp in the prologue felt insanely ALIVE and immersive, thousands of tents , dozens of soldiers and mercenaries walking around, training and drinking, all pretty awesome. But, wow, Foltest's death scene was unbeliavably good and breathtaking. Dialogue wise, music, direction, even the character's expressions... that little girl's face as her father was murdered in front of her... damn.

I'm not sure wether I get GT5 or Forza 4. Realism is what matters more to me. Which has the most realistic gameplay? ( In which game the cars handle more like they do in RL, physics, etc )
Right, but which is closer to real-world car handling?
Well, I'm looking for a new racing game, either Forza Motorsport 4 or Gran Turismo 5. To me realism is essential in racing games. And I'm talking about realistic gameplay, not graphics.
So I'd like to know: Which game has the most realistic car handling, physics and such? In which of them the cars handle more like they do in RL?
