I will start this by saying I've had a lot of fun with the game. That being said, its hard to imagine how Bungee, the company that brought us some of the most iconic characters in games today, could miss the mark so badly with their story. CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING. Without it all games are disjointed messes. This game is good and bad. Good mechanic, good graphics, good design. Bad character development and story.
I looove shooting the guns in this game. They are models of gaming mechanics. I loooove the speeder bike. It drives exactly as you think it should and is a blast. I loooove the alien races. The warble of the Vex when they explode. The POP of the Cabal when their armor decompresses. The bark of the Hive when they desolve. I dig meeting new people on the road to where ever it is I'm going. Armor designs are awesome as well. These are the things that will keep ME coming back. The problem with the game however, is context.
Agent of the Nine, The Speaker, all the big bosses of each Strike... all fantastically designed characters but without story, with background, without CONTEXT they are empty husks.
Imagine the Agent of the Nine was actually a double agent for an even darker, evil force than the Darkness. What if The Speaker was a Titan in his youth. Suppose each boss had a story of how they crushed all before them to become shogun of their area of our solar system. All missed opportunities and Bungee will lose millions of dollars because of their oversight. It makes me sad because I like the game and Ive got really fond memories of Bungee games past. Still I give this game a 7.5./10.
@Sefier1 uhm... Titanfall got a NINE on this site dude... A NINE. That game was entertaining for approximately the time it got boring to use the robot. Three days in my case.
@Mr_Ditters @beckfoloe I owe you an apology dude. I realized just how nasty I sounded there ands its the very thing I am complaining gamers are doing. You are entitled to tour opinion. I'm just annoyed that I bought the game on comments fawning all over the beta and now it seems the very same people are cursing it. Sorry dude. I was out of line.
@Zionmaster listen man... I'm not trying to get people upset. I apologized to that dude focused on 30fps. Ive just seen the tide turn against games too often.... for no reason. I just don't get how THIS game was everyone's favorite during the beta but now its the worst. Like I said... I bought the game because of the beta comments. Its the same game as it was then.
Okay, so I've written this comment multiple times but no ones answered it yet. Why is grinding on bosses in Dark Souls good but grinding bosses in Destiny bad? Why is a terrible story in Titanfall acceptable but intolerable in Destiny? Why is going on similar missions and shooting guys over and over okay on Call of Duty but not okay with Destiny?
I don't get it. Destiny's story leaves MUCH to be desired but a SIX? That is crazy. IGN put out their review finally. They took their time which I appreciated. They gave it a 7.8 which I agree with. The game has superb mechanics and graphics but lacks story. I am not sure why that garnered a 6 but this site has been inconsistent for years.
@Mr_Ditters @beckfoloe That comment wasn't really focused just at you. I should have wrote it separate from your comment. It also was not focused on Destiny alone. Almost EVERY game you guys hype up YOURSELVES you then tare down yourselves after its release. Go to YouTube. During the Beta I heard little to none of these gripes. You guys treated it like the second coming or something. Then the game comes out and theirs nothing but complaints. You are a bi-polar group at best.... that is not a venomous insult, its an observation. Go ahead, look at YouTube prior to the games release and go look now. The backlash makes no sense because the game is the same. Actually no, its not. Theirs more to do.
@Mr_Ditters listen to yourself... "30fpm is intolerable"... all these years I thought gamers knew what that wanted. I thought gamers were a the nerdy-cool crowd. I had read the articles but never the comments. Well, turns out I was wrong about you all. You guys are jerks. You are entitled, spoiled jerks. It pains me to read your comments. Why is grinding bad in Destiny but not in Dark Souls. Why is a bad story okay in Titanfall but not in Destiny. What about the fun factor. I guess that doesn't count either. I went on two very difficult strike today. When my team beat the boss I actually felt like id accomplished something. The struggle garnered me two more additional "friends" also.
You guys have no idea what you want. You just want to yell the loudest. I'm done with you spoiled brats.
