It's going to be a major problem at a school like UVA. You're extremely unlikely to get in without ECs. It's definitely going to hurt you at VaTech, but it wont break you like it will at UVA. A lot of this depends on what classes you took, what high school you went to and your SAT and SAT II scores.B05T0N

So if you were to rank the requierments in importance what would it be? I would thin, and hope, that it is:

1. GPA

2. SAT scores

3. AP classes- class difficulty

4. Extra Curricullar

?

[QUOTE="ash_godinho"]How important are extra curricular activities in college applications? I had a 4.0 GPA right now in high school and completed 2 AP classes(6 college credits). I take no activities at all. Do I stand a good chance of getting into a college like UVA or Virginia Tech, jiggidyjiggidy

make something up. skew. they're looking for liars. it's university.

Do they check?

I want to go to Virginia Tech, engineering program. They say the avarage GPA is a 3.84 for acceptance. But the other day we had someone come in during Study Hall to give us a talk. He said that sometimes people even with a 4.0 GPA are not gureenteed to get in.

What are the chances a computer engineer of computer scientist can work abroad, outside the US. And I mean a real good job somewhere in Asia like Japan or Singapore, not outsourced jobs to Bangalore in India.

COMPUTER ENGINEERING - Hardware Engineering, Development of Hardware, CPU, GPU, MOTHERBOARDS, etc.

-D3MO-

I see. So Comp Engineering is like working in a lab making hardware?

[QUOTE="ash_godinho"]

What I ment to say was. which do you think will have better career oppertunites and room for growth?

blooddemon666

dude, as long as there are computers, there will be huge demand for both. you can't really go wrong. though computer engineering is more Electricity based (switches, transistors, stuff like that) while comp sci is more logic based (and, or, xor)

Is there any way I can implement a business or finance career with these degrees?

So when you mean designing hardware, you don't mean the physical part of it right? I'm guessing it would be planning and analysis of making new hardware?

[QUOTE="ash_godinho"]So in your opinion, which is better?lupinelope
One isn't better than the other... it all depends on if you would rather design software or hardware. BTW, if you are considering these majors make sure you love math.
