My point is that Russia making videogames officially sanctioned propaganda isn't surprising in the slightest - as sad as it is. Another one could be the inherent hypocrisy in banning games that "distort history" while producing games that do... the exact same thing.

Russia never got over its dream of being an empire; they failed as a monarchy, they failed with the USSR, they'll fail with Putin's fascism. The problem is the collateral damage it does to the rest of Europe. Using art in service of state is just a step in a political offensive - and blurring history. Few people remember now that Stalin was the biggest mass-murderer of the 20th century; apparently now he's going to be retconned into a capable leader too.

The mistake you're making is assuming contemporary Russia is a democracy. Putin's regime is actually closest to a fascist dictatorship.
