[QUOTE="04dcarraher"]I would change that cpu to a 955 you wont see a difference.kraken2109
This. You can overclock it to 965 speeds anyway for free. Also I don't know if that PSU is much good. Will you be needing an OS?

I've already got a Windows 7 I can use.

Replacing the CPU with this X4 955 from Amazon, the total is now £428.35 :)

I want to build a machine that can play modern games at 1600x900.

Here's a list of components I plan to buy:

Ebuyer

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 8MB L3 Cache 125W Retail Box Processor- £122.91

Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache- £40.99

Casecom Black Mid Tower Case - Front Blue LED 120mm Fan - With Side Window- £19.89

Arctic Power 500W PSU With PCI-E 2x SATA, 20+4 ATX12V 8pin +12V Connectors - Retail Boxed- £29.99

MSI 870-C45 AMD 870 Socket AM3 GB LAN 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard- £54.99

Amazon

Palit SONIC nVIDIA GTX 460 Geforce 1GB Graphics Card- £128.20

Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 2 x 2GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory - £45.30

TOTAL: £442.27

Are there any changes you would recommend? I want to try and stay within my £400 budget.

Also,if I get an mATX mobo, would there still be enough space for the GPU?

Thanks for all your help ^^

I'm still unsure about the issue of what CPU should I get...

A lot of laptops I see have a T5750 (e.g. http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-4693.aspx), but would it be worth spending more for one with a T8100 CPU? I have been considering a DELL Studio 15 with T8100.

Check http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Graphic-Cards.130.0.html

for info about mobile graphics cards.

belboz

thanks for the site! I was wondering:

Is http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-3450.9593.0.html better than http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9300M-GS.9452.0.html

They seem very similar :S

Hello, I seek your aid in finding an appropriate laptop, that costs around £300 to £400. I want it to be able to play HD videos and a games like HL2.

Unfortunately, I'm not really too familiar with laptop specifications and such ;_;, and I have a few questions:

What's a good, reasonably-priced dual-core CPU these days? and how big a difference does clock-speed make?

Also, is it possible to upgrade/add a GPU on all laptops?

Would a dual-core system run fine with olde-schoole Windows XP?

Is this a good laptop?

Any help would be appreciated ^__^

In Gran Turismo 4 there's a photo mode where you can take pics of your cars and save them as high res photos :D

you can mess about with fancy camera settings too

this mode isn't a real part of the gameplay though - just a bonus feature.

You can also plug in Keyboards if you play FFXI Online-Gijutsu-

USB keyboards also work in loads of other online games, eg metal gear online, and all the tony hawk games

Harddrives should have been made more widespread (at least released in Europe and other parts of the world).

This would enable developers to support online games with more maps and updates and such.

You have MGS3, but NOT METAL GEAR SOLID 2!!??

I'm assuming you haven't played MGS2, so I would thoroughly recommend playing it before MGS3. It would also be worth playing MGS1 first if you haven't played that either.

No need for an adapter.

You can use a USB keyboard with some games, which is very useful online.

Also, in Gran Turismo 4 you can save high resolution photos onto a USB stick.

It's also used to plug in USB headsets and EyeToys and also modems.
