Well I'm no physicist, but what he said about the gun creating energy from nothing doesn't make sense. The gun doesn't create energy in the scenario he mentioned and the energy isn't coming from nothing. You gain it from falling, same as if you step off a cliff. It only makes sense that that would happen if you elevated yourself with a portal. in fact, the energy doesn't even start to be gained until you're through the portal. As to more intelligent life elsewhere definitely discovering portal tech and populating the entire universe just because A) Portals are possible, B) They're smart enough to find out, and C) Portals make you move fast - is somewhat presumptuous. That's a lot of "what ifs" just being assumed. In one question I can turn that around. What if intelligent aliens are somewhere having a similar discussion about us? If it is illogical for us to assume that we are the most intelligent creatures of all, wouldn't it be illogical for anyone to assume their species was? What if we're the smartest and we're the closest to discovering it just due to the fact the we conceptualized the very idea? Maybe we aren't the smartest but it just takes a really long time to figure out how portals can be made, and so not even the brightest minds in the universe have the technology yet. Additionally, suppose someone out there did discover it. Just because portals make you move fast doesn't mean you'd already populate the entire universe. Ffirstly, you need a population big enough to do that. If you have a million planets to colonize but only 500,000 people, it doesn't matter how fast you can move. Until you build your population, you won't be colonizing anything. The universe is big. Even light takes a long time to reach one thing from another,so a bunch of teleporting aliens would still have a tough time reaching the whole thing in short order. Speaking of light, that brings up his point about being able to move faster than light. Basically he was saying Einstein's work disproves the whole possibility. But unless I'm mistaken,it's Einstein's work that lead us to conclude that space can be bent, and if I can bend space between say, myself and the other side of the street, and then find some way to move myself across that bend(now we might be getting into wormholes) I should be able to simply step to the other side of the street-instantly,which is faster even than light.

Anyway this isn't to say that I believe portals are possible, though they might be,but if they were,I'm sure you wouldn't fire them from a gun onto a wall like a big quantum paintball. I'm also not sure about aliens. But all that aside,I enjoy science and hypothetical talk,so I think I'll enjoy this new feature. Hopefully the What If Machine sticks around.

@Trenchman You are correct. Everyone in the business knows software sells hardware. If that weren't true, companies wouldn't show their products running software in their commercials. Apple will have to get their own European, monster stomping, princess rescuing tradesman.

@SiLi34 Amen! If I get an HD Metroid, the world better learn to live without me for awhile, cause I'll want to spend as much time sucking that in as possible.

Hear me, Nintendo! Bring us a new Metroid game soon! Retro Studios developed, please!

@Bread_or_Decide As if any shooter on earth isn't? It's world war, aliens,or post-apocalyptic zombies. All that changes is the method of turning your enemies into mutilated corpses.

@demonic_85 Not every game has to melt your eyes with gorgeousness. In fact, that would betray the Mario Bros art style. Just think of games like VVVVV(is that enough Vs I don't remember...), Cave Story, Scribblenauts, etc. These games are INTENDED to look simple. On the other hand, Mario Galaxy 3,or another Donkey Kong Country (Both of which I would kill to get to play) would be opportunities for Wii U to flex its muscles.

Why do people keep asking the stupid question of Mario on iOS? I suppose you'll want Master Chief on there too? How about Gran Turismo,or Ratchet and Clank? These are first party IPs people! Putting Mario on a device everyone seems to think is in direct competition with the 3DS would be like Ford saying,"Hey Chevy. You know next year's Camero? Well we've got this huge engine we were going to put in our next Mustang so it would be faster, but you can have it too!" Mario would get out there, sure, but ultimately,Nintendo would be MAKING iOS devices into direct competitors by using their own character to sell Apple's devices rather than 3DS's or home consoles.

Phoo, got that out of me. Anyway I look forward to it. I like how every Mario game takes one or two concepts and builds the entire game around it in interesting ways, then later games often include that concept as a basic function, and they add a different concept for playing with.

@xpepox It does. Of course I don't have a link, but here on GS there are two articles about the Wii U. One where some named devs, including those working on the Aliens game, say the Wii U is more powerful, and one where some anonymous devs say it isn't. I'll take the word of people with names who I KNOW are working with the system over "some guys" any day.

@Kevin-V @foxrock66 I actually do get annoyed when I see someone-male or female-being picked on for not meeting certain physical expectations set by other people. I don't have a problem with myself(I'm in good shape and healthy and whatnot),but I don't want other people expecting me to look a certain way other than how I do,for instance, taller. I just realize that if you want a hero guy in a game, you generally want him to be a big imposing dude, and if that's what I'm given to play as,so be it. I realize that it's fake. BUt these femenist groups act like this is a plague, some deliberate attempt to demean women. I just wish they'd worry about problems that physically harm people rather than the perceptions of them.

@albatraum @Psi9179 @Electrofreak That's the sorry truth of it. The devs know they aren't going to sell a game with an ugly chick on the front cover. But I really don't know what to say about that one. People will just have to grow up. I know I don't buy games like that, but as long as that's what sells, that's what will be made.
