Most people usually finish the first play through between levels 30-35. The final boss can easily be done at that level. If you play online you rack a hell of a lot more xp so if you feel you need to be a little higher just join someone elses game for a bit :-)
Hey, You level up by getting XP which can be gotten through getting kills/assists in game and generally winning the game. There are also challenges, which is what the attachments come under, and when you complete these challenges you get extra xp to help you level up. If you use the same gun all the time then you will be stopping yourself from unlocking challenges that are unlocked by using different guns, so you will want to use different guns when you have completed some challenges.
Quite interesting you brought this up. I always just re-subscribe every year paying a full £40, but looking back at it I only reall use Gold at the end of the year when the new Call of Duty come's out. This year I have been playing Dragon Age and Mass Effect... and soon to get Bioshock 2 which came out today (althought that does have multiplayer) so I'm not really using my Gold at all. But then If i do buy it in smaller packages (say a 3 month Gold subscription) then I will end up spending more over the year anyway.
I agree with Mythomniac. l4d2 is pretty much the same as l4d apart from a few new weapons and enemies. You go from point A to B killing zombies, no story. I would rent MW because it is an awesome game and you could complete the story in a short amount of time.
