I can understand your point of view as global thing. But there is difference between put on billboard something like this: http://www.joetheprogrammer.net/images/jaguars.jpg and play ecchi games/create them for own use in own house. There is a difference between flood the people by fanservice (force them to look at it all the time on TV, billboard etc.) and situation where product is avaible for person who consciously want buy it. In first case I would agree with you, that is issue. But not in second case when we have game with fanservice and every single person have to buy it for only own use.
And why need fanservice? For pleasure of consumer who like it. For example if TN would to not toned down sexuality of female characters, i would like to buy this game. But if they did it, I prefer stay with Tekken and MK as better fighting games.
If you are looking for catalyst, I thing you are looking for it in wrong place. Usually I see more breasts during walk on the town - only on billboards, than in games. Games are still not that common thing - most popular titles do not cross over 5kk on 5kkk+ ppl on earth. While majority of games do not have something what you dislike so much - how many games in this year used oversexualised female image? Tera, Lolipop... and? Is it rly that big scale? Please consider fact we talk here about DoA - rly nishe title based only on fanservice. Whole issue in this topic is toned down this things in game what was supposed for fanservice. I can not be responsible for someone feelings about things what do not even directly effect this person. In same way a lot of things effect on my feelings by things what do not directly effect me. For example I'm strongly against deforestation, especially equatorial forests. After that I'm forced to use paper almost everyday. At last pixels do not hurt anything. By this way, I would be feel offended almost all the time. Views, opinions and preferences is something completly individual and completly own business. If anybody feel effected by this, then should think about own reaction. Try to change other ppl preferences is nothing less than try take control over this ppl. Yes ,If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth. But fact is, most of us just do like big breasts. But it does not means that is all what we want. As I told before, real girls is also personality, soul, views and will, not just body. Breasts is all what we want, but only from digital characters. I'm afraid only one thing, not all ppl are able to see difference between real and fiction...
From womens. Oversexualised female characters in games is much younger thing than breast enhancements. It have begining from fact some womens have big breasts which is quite rare. Since medicine allow to it some doing it from times where games was not widespread. That is sad if some girls feel in threatened by fantasies. But also, it is not the reason for why we should not satisfy our desires because of it. It does not directly hurt any person. Only persons what have problem with accept herself, and even this not directly. I think this approach is a bit hypocritical. It is like wish of stop our desires - control us and take off our freedom, because some girls want feel appreciated.
I think you are missing something. Yes, pixels are representation of real thing, but only body. At this moment you are the one who degrade real women. The real girl is also personality, soul, views and will - that is what I respect. And that is much more than just body. While in games the "cheap sex-object" is just pixels. All fantasizes are harmless. Lust and obsession is different story - but majority can not vouch for people with mentaly health issues.
