@bloodragegaming: Stupid kids aren't the ones standing in lines to spend close to $1000 to upgrade their 2 year old phones and tablets...

This is really going to be a turning point for consoles - and before people say this won't be a regular thing, just remember that the X Box was 4 years old when the 360 came out. How many people remember the outrage when that happened...

I laughed when I saw the title - then I saw the pic. 'Designed by Eric M Lang' Yeah, that's an insta-purchase. He's designed tons of great games. Some of my favs are Dice Masters and Arcadia Quest. I'm actually excited for this now.

@Jdzspace: Chuck Norris bursts out? Is that 10 years too late?

Amazing how this movie is now a 'cult classic'. Never heard that description for Labyrinth.

@Lattata: ^ This, a million times. Smedley's a douchebag who's actions conflict with his words. It must be a wonderful world he lives in where you can say ABC but do XYZ and think no one will notice.

I love how he only acknowledges his mistakes and goes on the 'Apology Tour' before a new game is released. He plays this game all the time.

Smed comes off as a douche politician saying what he will to get the vote only changing his tune later. I wouldn't surprise me if he changes his tune late saying some bs about how they're a necessary evil...then slowly slips them in.

Please don't fall for his games people...he's far more conniving than you realize.

@Alurit: Exactly. I bought my PS4 on Black Friday and I'm already maxed on space. I had to delete the Uncharted Collection so I'd have enough space for Witcher 3, Dragon Age and Batman. I'm really happy with my PS4 but Sony completely dropped the ball when it comes to storage. I'm going to upgrade my HDD to 2 TB but given how fast I filled up 500GB I don't think that'll last long.

I really hope they come up with an external option fast.

Mega Man 2.

We opened our gifts at midnight and it wasn't until 1 am when everyone went to bed...except for me. I played it and played it and played it until I heard my dad in the kitchen making coffee. I only realized then that it was 6am. I ended up finishing it the next day but I spent many hours playing it afterwards. I got a lot of games during Christmas but that was my favourite.

Second would be an N64. Many years later I got together with friends so we could exchange gifts. I had only met them a few years prior but we quickly became close. I have no idea why but my friend and his girlfriend bought me an N64. It totally caught me by surprise. I was expecting and would have been very happy with a $15 dollar bottle of wine. It was actually one of the few Christmases where I was completely surprised by a gift. I was never a huge fan of the N64 but I did have a lot of fun with it and I never forgot what my friends did for me. I still have it connected to my TV.

@xsonicchaos: oh dear...you totally missed my point...in all of your examples the creator(s) is expressing an emotion or an idea to an audience. It's THEIR thought being communicated to the audience - the author is telling the audience how they 'see' the world.

That's not what games are about. You can dress it up, have the greatest storytellers, the greatest music writers. the greatest whatever - the point of a game - all games is to teach skills, (which is why all games eventually become boring). A game designer has to put themselves into the shoes of the audience. The goal of game creation isn't about expressing one's thought or emotion but about YOU learning how to do something and then refining those skills.

That's a profound and fundamental difference.

The bigger question that bothers me is why it's so important for people to have games defined as 'art'. How would it make your enjoyment of a game better? Are people so insecure about their hobbies that they have to call it 'art' so they can justify it to others? To themselves? That says more about you than anything else.

Games are just as important to human development as art is, but they are two very separate things.
