You're trying to bring something new right? Then this is the right forum:). You mean something like a retropective?Jerell_rast
Yeah. All games more or less are built off a great idea another game had at one point (something as simple as a quicksave feature to as grandiose as online CO-OP). I think the flushing toilet from Duke Nukem 3D is one of the more obvious ones. But I think there is a great deal more that could be gleaned from older games. Give some props to some of these older games that helped make the industry what it is today.
I think this would make for a great article. There are all kinds of effects or protocol that we see in almost all games now, but usually there is a game that did it first and set the standard.
For instance:
First game to have dramatic shadows: Nocturne (Then explain further)
First game to have clothing with physics: Shadowman
First game to have destructable geometry: Red Faction
First game to have extreme gore: Soldier of Fortune
First game to have a hollywood actor VO:
First game to have a quick save/load feature:
I just guessed at most of these but you get the idea. In order to keep it from being to broad to narrow down, maybe you could limit it to PC games or shooters. Just a thought.
Most definitely not Haze.. Haze is far too popular and "recent" and also isn't even slated for PC as far as I know.THA-TODD-BEAST
Red Faction?
