Okay, so has anyone else wondered why Sony didn't chuck in an additional 8GB of RAM in the Pro if pricing for memory is so cheap these days? 16GB kits are $60 RRP. My guess is their cost is a fraction of that, yes?
@girlusocrazy: Same here. By far the WORST streaming video on any gaming site. It's never smooth. Frame rate issues abound and I have a brand new PC and Mac that exhibit the exact same issues. I get no problems on any other site, just Gamespot.
@MondasM: While I totally agree with you, a game of that scale just wouldn't be possible I don't think. Not that it couldn't be physically accomplished, just that publishers would see three IPs in those bullet points and they'd rather make three times the money over a short period of time.
@the7698466: My expectations are pretty low for this one, but kudos to the designers for creating something like this in this age of teeny-tiny attention spans. Personally, sounds like it's a Skyrim-in-space/Elite type of affair, then copy-pasted throughout the 'universe' using custom algorithms to randomize the elements so everything is always slightly different no matter where you are or who you are. The algorithm likely renders the colours, textures, environment, landscape and NPC models from a catalog of basic pieces as you enter the system on-the-fly. That's my uneducated guess anyway.
Surely they must have calculated exactly how many star systems and planets one person could conceivably visit if they played for 24 hours every day up to a maximum of 200-300 hours and figured that the total yield was the 'instance' they would account for with every player and the basic storyline must be printed into every part of the galaxy within the universe for every player to experience it. I really do think that this game just won't have nearly enough to do once you've got past the first twenty hours or so, but I'm desperately willing to be wrong. I loved Elite when I was growing up, but I don't think even that classic would fare well with the current audience – me included.
I worry about the game's character. The videos make it seem so lonely, plastic and lifeless from my vantage point.
Regardless, they've got my money anyway. I figure they deserve it for taking such a risk.
