I've been thinking and just had to put my thoughts down somewhere, so I figured I'd do it here. :)
I have to say, I truly appreciate what many game developers are doing. Games have been around for a little while now and people are beginning to see really incredible games emerging from the shadows. I have to say this generation of hardware is much more able to handle the true visions many developers have had for years and just have not been able to fully realize. Bioshock is a great example. That game is amazing. Plot wise, it is a deep, thought provoking, and sometimes controversial game--- "No Gods or Kings, Only Man."
It's wonderful to see more games with stories that really hit you in the stomach. Killzone is another example. I think most would agree that Killzone was an alright game. Certainly not a breakthrough. But neither was it a bomb.
The big difference now is that the devs can really do what they wanted to in Killzone 1 with Killzone 2, because of the freakishly powerful PS3.
I'm no fanboy to anything. Besides games in general. I have all the platforms, Wii, Ps3, 360, and a wonderful PC, so I can safely say that we are just at the beginning of a Golden Age in video games. Indie Developers are getting more respect and recognition that ever, innovation and expansion is becoming more abundant, and many powerful new IPs are being born just as some others pass away. Like Halo and Metal Gear: Solid. Those are at an end (Probably) main story-wise. But now we have things like, Prototype, Gears of War, Spore, Bioshock, and far too many more to count. As everyone knows, games only get more powerful and impressive as the systems life goes on, and we're still at the starting line.
We live in a good time fellow gamers. Throw away the suits and politicians tooting their horns about things they don't understand, and leave just the games, and what you wind up with, is a very happy time.
