I dont really car if theres violence as long as there is not a lot of blood, cus thats what makes my parents say no if theres blood. It also doesnt matter if the blood is redicously wierd like in halo!

Mad-_-Mike

There is no blood in Halo 3 though! Not that I noticed anyway. The marines use foul language but even then it's not that often. I suggest persuading your parents to test it in advance for you just so they can see that they are dealing with little more than Star Wars levels of violence. Seriously Halo 3 is the most unneeded M/15+ rating in history.

I'll tell you a few others, have you ever played Mass Effect (Another unneeded M rating. Explain to your parents how it got rated M because of controversy over a James Bond style sex scene) Assassins Creed or Mirror's Edge?

To me its very simple. None of us here would say that violent games are dangerous and warp the minds of people that play them. I dont think anyone ever plays a game and sees the characters in it as people like your friends or parents. This is why I have no problem with rape games, with comics with minors that are oh so popular in japan. Is it wrong on some moral level? Possibly but its not a crime as no children are harmed, no women are harmed and I do not believe it makes people do anything unless the person is already disturbed. The difference between a minor and an adult in a japanese comic or in this game is usually a few lines that make the breasts bigger.

Again most violent video games feature a strong set of morals, or at least gives the player the choice to follow a good set of morals. A rape game however is about a despicable act that leave hundreds of women tortured for the rest of their lives. There is no moral positive like there is in a game like Halo.

The force unleashed. I'd beat Galen Marek to death and become Darth Vader's new apprentice.

Kill Bill: I'd love to see Quentin Tarantino produce a Kill Bill video game, with all the quirky little moments like the screen turning black and white when you pluck someone's eye out or an entire level with an anime based graphics engine. It would certainly be interesting if done right.

Destroy All Humans 4: The first two were fun games but the third one was painful. Do another one and make it not just merely good but RUDDY BRILLIANT (Because only bold caps can explain how brilliant 4 would have to be) to make up for past disapointments.

A good LOTR RPG: One that fits in with Tolkien's middle earth stories and is, you know good.

Last gen I got a PS2 because it had the best game library out of all the consoles so it was great value for money. This gen I went for the 360 for the same reasons, despite having to abandon a few favourite series of mine in the transition *Cough* Metal Gear Solid *Cough*. I will stick by this method of picking next-gen.

Being labelled the highest rated superhero game of all time is like being crowned king of the dump. Ultimately useless. B:AA is great but this is just unneeded advertising.

It's stupid enough to ban violent games or pornography with consenting adults, but an animated game?

Legolas_Katarn

Rape and paedophilia are still wrong in any form. An animated film featuring sex with Lisa Simpson or Ahsoka Tano would be banned immediately in the west because it is minors commiting sexual acts. Same with rape, if the disney princes raped the disney princesses even in a film sold only in sex shops it would most likely be removed from sale. The problem isn't about people being harmed in the production of the game, it's the incitement of rape that such a game entails.

The second ordeal is that while Japan is more receptive about its mating mannerisms, the country has a disgust of senseless bloodshed. Violence is tolerated, sometimes mass killing is as well, but the act of showing gruesome deaths is usually seen as beneath the citizens. If Japan got together with censor-heavy Germany drafted a bill to remove all brutal deaths from video games, which side would you really be on? What about when the American media choose the side of censorship? Can you justify needing to head shot people just to see their brains explode? Would it sound about the same as a Japanese man explaining how a female's clothes get ripped off?

It might, because those two activities trigger natural highs for the same brain response (euphoria to be exact). So before you bash them further, ask yourself...

Are you in the same boat as them?

SirSpudly

To compare a brutal act of savagary that leaves many women mentaly scarred for life every year to something arguably quick and painless as putting a bullet through someone's head isn't really the best of examples.

In most video games featuring sword/gun play you play a hero sticking up for decent morals (or at least gives you the chance to stick up for those morals through the ability to choose your path) like freedom, love and humanity. By pulling the trigger you are getting a high that most war veterans admit to have experienced during active service while also sticking up for the power of good. When a game does come out that features brutal manslaughter for the sheer kick of it that game will probably be met by massive controversy, I don't think many people need reminding of what happened with Manhunt 2, so it's not as if our Western taste for violence isn't completely un-moderated.

You can not however condone rape or paedophilia in any form. It is a cowardly and evil act that leaves the victim traumatised and in no circumstances can be deemed brave or heroic. As for the laws on the matter, the game in question is supposed to feature a fully grown man raping a mother and her two children aged somewhere between 15-16. So that is both rape and sex with a minor in one game. And this isn't new, it has been featured in Japanese media for years. Be it their infamous 'tentacle rape' or school teachers assaulting minors under their charge. The media that came before has also been legaly exported around the world under the provision that all sexual organs are censored.

I can only think of the irony that Japan has one of the lowest violent and sexual crimes of any developed nation. You'd only have to look at the source country to realize that its not particularly harmful.

XaosII

Japan doesn't have a very high rate in full on, penetrative rape but the rate of sexual assault in Japan is abnormally high. It's so high that many public places in urban Japan sport large signs reminding people that groping a woman's breasts is a crime. It's quite easy to see why such games could turn some of these men in to rapists.

What I don't agree with is how rape based video games are what's being picked on here. The Japanese adult entertainment industry has featured graphic rape and paedophilia for years and are legaly exported to the rest of the world so long as the genitalia are moderated. Apparently this game doesn't let you commit the actual rape, it's little more than an adult movie that lets you pick a position and as someone pointed out is legaly available only in Japan. The controvesry should have been around years ago.
