Even though both of my cards are from different brands, they're both reference design cards. What this means is that aside from the sticker and branding, each card is EXACTLY the same. Reference design cards are made by AMD themselves. The brands/ companies simply buy them from AMD and slap their logo on it. Only non-reference design cards are different. I personally prefer reference design cards because they tend to be of higher quality and allow the owner to change the voltage levels, which means that they overclock more successfully.

Just checked and my Sapphire isn't a reference design card. :( If I got the Diamond 5850 from newegg would it fit beside mine? Here's what I have:

Well, it shouldn't matter if they're different models since the GPU is the same (but the surrounding PCB may be different). However, I've read incidents in which people had problems. However, if there is any problem, it won't be due to the fitting the cards next to each in the case, it'll be a software problem. You should read up on it. I don't know much about Crossfiring a non-reference card with a reference card.

Well I searched on google and from what I've read it shouldn't be a problem. I'll probably get the Diamond card sometime in the near future. Thanks for the info you've been really helpful. :)

No, I haven't noticed any microstuttering. However, that doesn't mean much coming from me because I once watched a video in which someone demonstrated microstuttering and didn't notice it. However,I can assure you that I haven't noticed any glitches, anamolies, or any technical issues while playing any games. Everything runs smoothly. Temperatures are as follows:

Idle:

Top Card --> 47C

Bottom Card --> 36C

Load:

Top Card --> 80C

Bottom Card --> 70C

Well thanks for the info. I think I might grab another within the next few weeks. I don't see another Sapphire card available so I'll have to get another brand. I see that you have two from different manufacturers as well so I guess that won't be a problem.

The only problem I've experienced is the long amount of time it takes to switch between the window of a game and some other application. To be specific, whenever I try to switch from a game to Google Chrome or some other application, the screen will become black for a few seconds and then it will finally make the switch. This only happens when switching windows between a game and some other application. However, for non-gaming applications, this does not happen. This is the only problem I've had with Crossfire.

So you haven't seen any microstuttering? Also what are your temps? My 5850 idles at about 34 degrees. Sorry for asking so many questions I just want to get as much info as possible before I decide.

If I were you, I'd simply get the second 5850 now. It's as cheap as $194.00 on Newegg. Considering the fact that the 5850 is just barely weaker than the 5870, you'd get performance comparable to the performance I'm getting now.

BluRayHiDef

Yeah I've been thinking about getting one for a while but I always hesitate when I read about all the problems that apparently come with crossfire. Have you experienced any significant problems with your 5870s?

That looks awesome. I've been wondering if I should get another 5850. Would it be worth it or should I wait for the 7000 series?

I installed it and it only took about 20 minutes. I don't notice any difference.

That is quite impressive. It makes me wonder if I should go for another 5850 now or wait for the 7000 series.
