I don't mean to be a prude here, but how many of you that had a DRE in the past five years actually called Playstation (not the Sony consumer line, but the actual Playstation customer support group) and told them of your problem? Even outside of wwarranty, if you mail them your system they will fix it for free, unless you smashed it open with a hammer or tried to fix it yourself.

RRoD is the worse problem because of how preventable it would be if MS would simple redesign their console to allow it more room to breath internally and give it some better heat resistant glue. MS will also tell you take a hike if you want them to repair the system for any other problems what-so-ever, so don't really give them respect for taking care of their consumer base when they pratically pissed in your face but were gracious enough not to aim for eyes.
