Hmmmm, whenever I see a product being offered with tons of extra unnecessary gimmicks and baubles, it usually means the seller is not confident in the product itself...
"The animated version has long resonated with audiences worldwide. With the continued, ever growing, popularity of anime, we believe a live action version will have an incredible impact today."
That quote shows no personal passion for the anime, only ROI thought process. I will objectively take this announcement with strained cautious optimism, but my childhood takes it with utter disappointment.
Watched the trailer and saw virtually no similarity to God of War, new or old games. C'mon Gamespot, Iron Galaxy deserves a better opener than "Killer Instinct, Divekick Dev's New Game Looks A Lot like God Of War" for the announcement of their new game. I clicked on the article with the presumption that they're copying God of War, but I saw a pretty original looking game instead.
Hmm they pretty much put every game mechanic Farcry games are known for these days in the picture. Blowing up bases, climbing metal truss towers for mapping, planes for flying, trucks for driving, animals, a bow... It's like the "Where's Waldo" for Ubisoft game mechanics.
"And while overall the aggregate review scores were lower than we would have liked, we did have over 100 reviewers score the game at 80 or higher."
The CEO is doing some textbook cherry-picking there. I know he's running PR for the earnings call, but I'd feel much better if he said they dropped the ball on many aspects of the franchise, and that they will aim to do better in the future. Gotta take those rose colored glasses off every now and then.
