Don't get me wrong. I'm not an RE5-hater. I don't really mind that the series went in an action direction and I've played the **** out of RE5.

I just wish other games would take advantage of the console power we have now and make good survival horror. Survival horror is such a visceral experience. An era of HD visuals, surround sound is just BEGGING for good survival horror titles.

Dead Space is probably my favorite single-player experience ever. But there's only so far ONE survival horror game can get you these days.

Is the genre dead? How are any of you survival horror fans faring with so few titles?

So has using another controller made your stick drifting / backwards walking problems go away?

I am absolutely and completely mystified, and before I waste $50 by opening the brand new controller I bought today (I can still return it for full price) I thought I would ask for some input.

I got a 360 for Christmas and have been playing it steadily since. Everything is running smooth and played through some great games (Dead Space, GTAIV, Portal, and of course Halo Matchmaking). So I was all pumped to borrow my brother's copy of Bioshock considering the fantastic reviews. But...

When I play Bioshock the view lazily drifts to the right when I stop moving and occassionally during the middle of gunfights. It's JUST annoying enough to make me not want to play Bioshock, even though I really do want to go through it and see what all the hype is about.

Every single other FPS and right-stick-using game that I put in does not have this problem. But Bioshock consistently does this. I remember back in N64 days having this problem and it was solved by just making sure the sticks were untouched when you booted up the sytem. So I figured something must be wrong with my controlller, since I was making sure that the sticks were immobile when booting. But why would NO OTHER GAME have this problem.

Any and all comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Finishing any of the extra and secret stages (and even the later normal stages) on Yoshi's Island DS. Not to mention getting a 100 score on them.lew_0911

Agreed. These are pretty maddening.

@ tofu lion:

LOL. I had the same thing happen to me. I was playing PH at like 1 in the morning and I got to the part that said, "Scream as loud as you can." And I had to quit playing because I didn't want to wake up my entire house. Yeah, that part was a little lame.

I tried posting this in the PSP forum because I thought it fit there better. We had a pretty good discussion going on but it got locked.:( I was still interested in seeing what people thought, so I'm reposting it here.

I'm mainly a handheld gamer at the moment so I couldn't help but notice that all of Nintendo's returning handheld franchises (Yoshi's Island, MarioKart, Super Mario Bros., Zelda) all seem to score 9.0 or above by just following the same formula without really adding anything new to the franchise.

However, cross the gap over to the PSP and play GTA: Vice City Stories, GoW: Chains of Olympus and other fantastic entries in great franchises get noticeably marked down for "not adding anything new" when these games are at least infinitely more fun and more deserving of critical praise than say Yoshi's Island DS. Give me a free-roaming interactive world of crime and cars any day over Yoshi carrying Baby Mario.

What's the deal? Is there a Nintendo bias among the reviewers that any of you have noticed? Why couldn't they have given Vice City Stories and Chains of Olympus at least a 9.0 just for capturing the GTA or GoW experience on the handheld?

@ bobtheflounder:

I totally see what you are saying about the way Gamespot reviews games with one person reviewing each game. It just seems weird that the Nintendo franchises so consistently get high marks for doing the same thing over and over again and when (presumably) the same people review games on other systems they get marked down for following a formula.

The 2D Zeldas are a perfect example. They've pretty much been the same game for two decades now and they're still scoring 9s. We have 3 God of Wars and the 4th (CoO) gets bumped below AAA status.

I know it's only half a point down to 8.5, but 9.0 gives a game a must-have status which a lot of PSP franchise games (CoO, GTA:VCS, etc.) deserve.

I've played GTAIII and Vice City both on the PS2 and think that the PSP faithfully captures the experience without any serious control issues. Honestly, I didn't even notice any drawbacks from not having a second analog stick.
