DC wanted to fast track the "Marvel formula," and did exactly that. Marvel is now making mediocre movies that are just okay. DC started that way. Both DC and Marvel have their fans, some rabidly so, that will defend their films as "you just don't get it." And that's the problem Marvel is getting way too interconnected for anyone to care and DC didn't really feel connected from the start.
If either decides to focus on the story first instead of what CGI battle mess they can put on screen, maybe they'll see that "superhero fatigue," isn't really a thing. People are just tired of recycled tropes that are only there to get you do the next explosion.
