I pay a pretty good price for my internet speed, everytime i do speed tests its crazy fast but for DL on the PS3 it drives me insane 1200mb takes roughly 3 hours to DL. I have a linksys wireless router i bought about 3 years ago does that matter or is it time to update routers to a newer linksys?

KurupSoldr

The router will have a HUGE impact. Because no matter how fast your up/down speeds are, they will be limitted by the speed of the wireless signal. If you are looking for speeds as fast as what is advertised by your ISP, you will need to actually use a wired connection.

Hi - with the new video download feature in the store. What format are they downloaded in? If I download them to my computer can I then use the media server to stream them to the PS3 and other devices?

Thanks

Western Digital 160 GB...

Issues, the blue screw was in there pretty tight for mine, other than that, very simple.

i uninstalled ydl after it scared the hell out of me and froze booting up everytime...

after scouring the net, i learned that i could force it to boot from the ps3's OS. Thank goodness too, i uninstalled YDL right away.

All i can say is that if you do get it to work, be careful activating the wireless internet. thats what messed mine up.

useLOGIC

Mine is wireless right now, OK that may be the issue...I wanted to stream HD movies to the PS3 so I was going to network my house, maybe I'll do that first before intalling.

Thanks for the heads up!

Hi everyone,

Im trying to install YDL on my PS3. I formatted the drive, installed other os and it booted up in Linux. I get the two penguins at the top. Then I receive the following error message:

no lease, failing install

Then it goes to kboot and the only commands it will recognize are booting back into PS3 and reboot...

Anyone else have these issues or know what could be the cause, I tried to google it and didnt get very far.

Thanks

Ive got the 60 with BC (which I never use) ... I would probably consider trading it, as I have a 160 GB HDD too, for cash and another version... but I wouldnt want any of the versions with less USB/Media readers...maybe i should look into this

Thanks everyone. One of the big reasons I use TVersity over WMP is the transcoding. I dont want to take all my movies and put them in PS3 formats...I'd rather just rip the .vob file (or .mts for bluray), save the file and have the media server transcode it to something PS3 reads.

I figured Linux would have much less MS overhead, but I dont know if there are any good media streaming tools like TVersity that i could use with linux to do the transcoding for me...

Hi Everyone,

I want to get rid of my dvd collection by creating a media server to stream to my PS3. I tested out using TVersity on my normal workstation and it works well enough. So I have a box I'll add a ton of storage to and use solely as a media server (the other workstation is used for internet/word processing/etc).

The question I have is, should I install windows xp (I have an extra license for it) or linux? I figured linux would have much less overhead than windows, if all I wanted to do was stream... however, TVersity allows me to not worry about transcoding the files (I'd like to backup all my DVDs as well as the BluRays I have).

Just looking for suggestions, if I do decide to go with Linux, that would work as well as TVersity seems to.

Thanks in advance.
