so basically the ginormous space difference on their game discs doesn't give the PS3 an advantage?

what about PS3 exclusives? are they "superior" (for lack of a better word) technically cos of the Blu-Ray discspace?

As for the XBox: it uses "normal" DVDs as discs yet has HD output. so is the game actually HD? Guess you can put full HD material on "normal" DVDs, which I guess in return gives you less space on the DVD (meaning DVD footage would maybe give you a 2 hr movie, whereas HD on a DVD would maybe only give you 1 hr) or is my way of thinking totally off?

I've been thinking of buying an XBox 360 or PS3 for a while. Considering the PS3 comes with an integrated Blu-Ray-Player and has just as many games I'm interested in as the XBox I was leaning towards Sony. But there is one thing I would really appreciate input on:

The PS3 has Blu-Rays as game discs, the XBox 360 has DVDs as far as I know. So how come the cross-platform-games look the same on both systems while the PS3 should/could be far superior?

Could someone shed a light on this for me. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, there already is a thread on this or it's a beyond stupid question. But it's been bugging me for a while.

All the benefits cited for region coding come down to one thing. It allows for price discrimination. Which is some countries is against the law. It acutally promotes illegal copying, pirating, and modding as well because people want to get around region coding, which ethically they should have every right to. Like I said before the European Union is going to have confront this soon because there are two regions in the EU and this conflicts with their economic laws.

DVD's standard might as well be a law if it is not. DS does not use DVD's and VHS tapes are also region encoded. IT SEEMS LIKE A BIG SCAM. I wont argue with you all on that point.

VHS are not regioncoded. they only appear that way cos of the different video standards. you can buy hardware that plays them all.

regioncoding for movies unfortunately makes sense given the different release dates worldwide. but why for videogames?
