Generally a great list with only a few "mistakes". I think most years you've got objectively the best game, even when it's one I don't like (World of Warcraft being an example; that is goty for just being such an important part of gaming in spite of how much I HATE mmos fundementally).

Still, I think Skyrim instead of Dark Souls is an obvious miss (obvious to me at the time) that has only gotten more obvious as time went on. Also Deathloop instead of It Takes Two was a mistake as well. I'd say Gamespot has a pretty solid record of making the right pick. like taking Half Life Alyx instead of The Last of Us 2 was a great choice

@santinegrete: Yeah Gamespot was actually an outlier with their correct choice in 2009. I think everyone would agree with it now nearly universally, but at the time more outlets were giving it to Uncharted 2 which is obviously a worse game and also a much less influential one.

MiSTer is incredible but FileZilla is a bad FTP client to use as it's basically got malware in it now. WinSCP is lightweight and easy to use.

Hopefully it'll have gamecube controller support with the same button mapping. It's not a standard or "optimized" way to play but it creates a great gamefeel. Something about that big A button really feels great when it's connected to a main attack.

@Thanatos2k: Right! The first platform I bought the game on is no longer my platform of choice so it's super irritating to not be able to just buy this on my new prefered platform.

@Vodoo: They don't work on modern tvs; it's a cool trick based on how CRT displays worked. That's the main reason they don't make them anymore. They were a niche thing up until the last generation that used CRTs primarily being the PS2.

Wii had them as well with pointer controls but it really isn't the same at all.

@dirtydyk:Yeah black frame insertion helps a lot but I sometimes miss my plasma; at least it seems like people are going with oled these days over LCD lately. I remember no one buying plasma when the quality gap was just massive between LCD vs plasma and it was really sad.

When XP farming happens in any game it's a perfect tell that the crappy skinner box you've stapled on the game shouldn't be there in the first place. It's a FPS; why not just make it skill and skill alone?

Problem with these types of movies is they come out after were already over it.
