When you buy a PS3 new you get a 1 year warranty.

I'd probably try a intercooler. But, if your fan is really broken (it definitely seems like it) then it might not be enough to keep it cool. I'm not too sure though.

The PS3 won't go to the XMB, it automatically tries to install update 3.1 but fails (it was already downloaded so it won't do anything else until it installs).
