Have you ever thought about how far the $1.1B that MS is spending on x360 service charges could go towards new game development or reduced costs for the consumer? There is no free money out there. You paid for that repair and so does everyone that buys a 360.**
** edit: actually, as long as MS is losing money in its gaming division, it's all MS customers that are paying for your repair.
Anyway, the heavy service charges are nothing for MS to be proud of. Imo, they got in this situation by rushing the hardware design and testing. They rushed it to force Sony's hand... and it worked. In the case of the PS3, however, the costs haven't come in the form of service charges but in the retail price for technology that wasn't ready for the mass market.

Oh!
That's why MS sells Vista as much as a computer ;) I never tought i would see the day where an OS cost actually as much assome computer people install it on (not considering the price of the monitor which can now be used to watch TV or play console anyway).
As for the 360 mine did not break. But i bought it1 yearago only. I think that an electronic device should last a minimum of 3 years. Only my HP printer did not last 3 years when i consider all the electronic things i bought in the last 10 years. The other one that came close is my NEC CRT monitor that laster 4 years and an half. All other things laster between 5-7 years and i have a JVC CRT TV that is 11 years old and still work like a new one.
I must admit i change my PC video card and CPU each 2 years but well they at least work for those 2 years and probably more after i sold them.
The fact that a lot of 360 breaks after a couple of months only is not a positive thing even if the customer support is good. One of my friend got his 360 replaced twice already. Both time the DVD readerhad massive disc errors.
