It depends on what side you're looking at. The people who are hysterical about trans* rapists are quite silly, but I think it's understandable as to why trans* people being barred from the restrooms of their choice would be a non-trivial problem for trans* people. I mean, at a glance, worrying about using the bathroom of one's own choosing sounds like a very silly issue, but I personally find it non-trivial because these rules that bar trans* people from using their desired restrooms contribute to the same culture that denigrates them constantly. And then there's the fact that a lot of trans* people feel sh!tty when they use the wrong restroom because they feel like they're being forced to accept themselves as their fake gender by cultural norms.
Oh I understand that, but I was referring to the other side: people who act as though we must separate bathroom use, as that will somehow will stop forms of assault.
