[QUOTE="Demo24"]yes, it might help some however upgrading that video card will do the most. Although that will be challenging on an AGP platform.Demo24

So you are saying that the video card is the bottleneck? I would have guessed that the processor was the bottleneck, which would mean that upgrading the gpu without upgrading the cpu first would be a waste...

actually upon consideration i take that back, upgrade the cpu and see what happens. Should improve sometimes all around.

course if your feeling adventurous you could always overclock that sempron. If it's a 90nm version those things could clock up like hell!

I believe it is the 90nm version. I guess rather than replace this one, I should first try overclocking it and see if that helps. Sadly I don't know how to overclock. :?

My PC specs:

MB: DFI Lanparty UT nF3 250GB

CPU: AMD Sempron 64 2800+ Palermo

RAM: 2x512MB PC3200

Video Card: 128MB 6600GT

Now I'm looking to improve my performance in games, specifically World of Warcraft, and I was thinking of upgrading my CPU to an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ which I can get for $35 shipped on ebay. Would this be worth the money do you think? Would I get a significant improvement in framerate with this?

Just make sure you install the latest patches for your games, that's all.

I've got a tube of AS5 that has been sitting in my desk for over a year and a half. Is it still good to use on a new processor? I would assume so, but I jsut want to make sure it doesn't lose it's effectiveness or somethin. lol

Yes! That will work perfectly. Thank you. The only thing I changed is I went with a $35 Coolermaster Centurion 534 case and a $30 Antec Eearthwatts 380W instead of teh case/psu combo you picked out.

[QUOTE="J4y_97"]Well like I said it only needs to be able to run games like BF2 and AOEIII decently so anything with at least as much power as a 6600GT will do. I really can't spend anymore money than this, I'm afraid...RayvinAzn

Figure the most budget of cases, and you're out $20. Decent budget motherboard, $70. Decent processor, $65. GPU for those games, you're looking at another $100. RAM, $50. Power supply, I wouldn't get anything less than the 380w Earthwatts unit, which is usually around $60, although rebates on it bring it down as low as $30. Hard drive, $60. Optical drive, $30. You'll need an OS as well, and that's another $100.

That's the cheapest build I'd recommend for any gamer at this point, and that's bottom of the barrel.

No do not include the OS in the $400. Also, what parts specifically would you recommend? Could you post links?

Can someone give me a list of the best parts for $400? My main concern is to have a decent graphix card because this PC will be used for some gaming (BF2, AOEIII).

required parts:

CASE

MOTHERBOARD

CPU

GPU

RAM

PSU

HDD

OPTICAL DRIVE
