[QUOTE="GirlUntold"]I'm sorry, but who are you to say that these emblems are pointless? That is to say that the other emblems have a point?
Sometimes, I like keeping things just to remember others by. Is that pointless as well? That's what I'm getting by this. I was in the chatroom during discussion of the cake and pie war when Rob and Vince decided to make emblems. It's a moment that I'd like to keep remembering every time I look at that emblem, but obviously will not be able to do that when taken away. It makes me incredibly disappointed.
I can not see the harm in having emblems such as the pie/cake or turkey ones. Just saying, "Imagine rows and rows of these," is not a good enough argument because A) that's purely an "if" scenario B) the staff create and place the emblems, not users, so an epidemic of "pointless" emblems shouldn't be that big of a concern C) we don't know if that's the reason these icons are temporary.

Yes, those emblems do have some sort of purpose, but later more gamespot members found out about that thread, and that you vote and get an emblem. Once tons of people out of the chat room got the emblem it lost some of its meaning.
Emblems should represent how active you are in the community, and what kind of gamer you are. Instead, people are watching live events for games that they aren't even interested in, just to get an emblem
I understand what you are saying, but at the same time, it's completely objectionable in terms of what an emblem should and should not represent. Emblems are created by staff and not the users, so it would be the staff that would be able to tell what their original purpose was. Everyone has a different idea as to what emblems represent (including bragging rights), but people collecting emblems for the sake of collecting them is not either uncommon, preventable, or as I've been observing, very looked down upon overall. Just to touch on the Pie/Cake emblem losing it's meaning, I didn't feel that it had once word got out. I don't mind sharing a moment with people because the two emblems are rather different and encourage participation in the community. Now whether that participation is positive or negative is debatable, but I haven't seen much harm done from the said emblems.
Like the past decision about the rating system, I do not think that this will be reversed. In this case, I'd like to see the Pie and Cake emblems remain permanent (obviously), but do not see it happening. After reading what a few people from outside the US wrote about the Turkey emblem though, I can better understand the taking down of Mr. Turkey. I liked my birdy, but alas, poor Turkey. I knew that Americanizing bird well.
