Hello there

So i've just built a new 955 Black edition (stock speed, 3.2ghz) comp with a gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P and a big Xigmatek fan and heatsink for the CPU in my old Antec P160 case.

Problem is my idle temps are about 40-43c. Is this actually a problem? Surely it should be at least a little lower than this? The cpu fan is only running at about 500rpm, can i turn it up? I don't mind it running faster as it's a really quiet fan. I downloaded speedfan but i literally have no idea what i'm doing with it.

Under load (gaming) the fan only goes up to about 1000rpm and the temps are at about 55c. Is this right? On my old athlon x2 the stock fan ran faster than this at idle.

Let us know if i'm just being silly and this is normal, cheers

as the topic title suggests, i'm looking to buy a 8800gt...crazy card for the price.

basically, my x1900xt 512mb is dying pretty much...artifacting and what not, high temps under load etc (pushing 99degC on a warmish day, and starting to struggle slightly on more newer games, probably because i play at 1680x1050. so i'm wondering if a 8800gt would be bottlenecked by my 4400+ at stock?

My processor runs pretty hot, and it's a few years old but i'm sure it has quite a bit of life in it to last until a new build so i'm not really looking for a new proc or anything...

just want to be sure before i shell out, so any help would be grand. ;)

Well, STALKER was brilliant while I played it for a few hours, but for me at least, it was so so buggy. It looks pretty great though. Great game.

Now, Bioshock, for me, was just fantastic. You just cannot compare the two though. Completely different games all round.
Don't care what anyone said, Bioshock has a brilliant, fantastic story and looks just amazing imo.

So, I'd get Bioshock, play it to death, then get STALKER as it's really quite cheap these days online etc.

Can't really comment on Quake Wars. Only played the demo and had pretty negative views on it just from that. Was a bit dull really...nevermind.
BIOSHOCK!!

hmm, yes, i can certainly why you'd list those as your recommendations, all of them being similar to ace combat, yes.

I fail to see what makes this guy such a great critic, other than the fact that he bashed Halo. All he does is insult every flaw that he can find in a game, then hand down an overall decision that seems completely unrelated to the rest of the review. Look at the Psychonauts review. He reams it for every flaw he can find, lists three positives without any real explanation, and declares that anyone who doesn't buy the game is an idiot who doesn't understand what a good game is.

He also managed to make System Shock 2 (a game widely considered to be one of the greatest) sound like a horrible game in an attempt to bash Bioshock.

Doesn't help that he talks way too fast. He needs to either get more time to read his review or cut down on the unneccesary attempts at comedy that everybody's heard before. (hey, I drew attention to the fact that Lucasarts only makes Star Wars games anymore, I'm hilarious!)

Mediocre_man90

i reckon half the comedy is in how fast he talks, etc. i really, really, don't think he's setting out to properly review a game like gamespot or pc gamer, etc, like evenly talking about the good and bad points and all that. all the bashing he does on all the great games he reviews is purely for fun.

i LOVE bioshock, i honestly think it's one of the best three games EVER made, but his review was hi-LAR-ious...imo...
