Who doesn't love fighting games? You don't? Then sign off and go watch Dora the Explorer. Fighting games are great, but whenever one is released for the Wii some strange motion control is added to make the Wii remote "user friendly". It doesn't work for me (activating hyper combos by swinging the remote isn't my thing) but luckily, Nintendo made the classic controller. I have my old Gamecube controllers and I wish I could use them but I can't, right?
There are many Wii owners who have wondered at some point if their old Gamecube controller will work on any games other than Smash Brothers and Mario Kart. If you've ever found yourself thinking that you needto buy a Wii classic controller then you're right. Right?
I purchased Guilty Gear XX Accent Core a while back. I'm a fan of fighting games and decided to give it a try but I refused to play it with the Wii remote and nunchuck. I called my local retailer and went online like many others searching for answers and was told that the classic controller was the only way to go. I purchased two Wii classic controllers and played 2 rounds before I realized what a horrible investment they were. They lack a comfortable grip and it's annoying that they have to be plugged into the Wiimote, linked by a three inch cable, unlike the Gamecube controllers that go straight to the console. Having no other choice, I continued to endure.
Enter Captain Olimar, savior of mankind.
One day I decided to have some Pikmin fun on the Wii with my Gamecube controller and after I was satisfied decided to play some Guilty Gear. I plugged theclassiccontroller into the remote, popped in the game and hit start on the channel menu. Everything starts up normal with the opening movie (which I don't need to watch again) so I press start on the classic controller to continue on to the menu.
Movie keeps playing.
guess i didn't press it...
::hits start button repeatedly::
what the...
::smashes buttons on controller::
stupid controller...
::restarts console::
::repeats process::
AGAIN?! WTF MAN?! I HATE THIS ******* THING!!
i guess i have to watch the movie...
::picks up Gamecube controller while waiting for the sake of it and presses start::
Let me just say that I hate Nintendo and any other websites, retail stores, and "experts" that say the Gamecube controller isn't compatible with a game unless it is specified on the back of the game's box.
LIARS!
Here are the games that I've personally tested with the Gamecube controller and work:
Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
Tatsunoko VS Capcom
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Although this isn't a ridiculous 60 game list I think that it's enough to show that you never know unless you try.So far, with the exception of the games that were specifically made with the intention of using motion controls (Mario Galaxy, Okami), I think it's safe to say we can enjoy use of the Gamecube controller with many Wii games that previously weren't mentioned.
BTW, if there was some post somewhere on this website or any other saying that, "Of course, you can use Gamecube controllers on any fighting games" then I apologize for being so ignorant.
[QUOTE="AmnesiaHaze"]you wont be able to play this bloody NMH version even with a regionfree PAL wii , i know because i had to buy a NTSC console exactly for that game after realising my fresh from hong kong imported NMH disc wont work , loads into black screen

An NTSC Wii game will definitely work on a functional NTSC Wii unit. Might be your game was a bootleg, or that Hong Kong are on a different "region code" on Wii games (isn't Japan PAL like Europe?), or the TV might be non-NTSC compatible.
he's right, the three big regions are PAL (europe) NTSC (US) and NTSC/J (japan). if you bought a copy from hong kong its NTSC/J so you will need a japanese wii to play it. no other way to get around it. :?
