You need 75 percent (3 bars) to do the update.

Well, found a way to drain the battery a bit. The PSP "charges" it again (took 10m) but still showing a zero charge level. I inserted it into my friend's PSP and it didn't power up. Its possible the battery has a bad charge (similar possibly to how PSU's on computer can get them). The only way to eliminate that... is to fully drain the battery (as someone suggested before).

Bah... I'll try to post if it works so you'll know if this happens to you.

I haven't tried a complete drain. Was hoping a complete charge would work... alas I was wrong. 2 hours for a complete charge versus ???? hours to drain. I really wanted to play me some Tactics multiplayer with friend.

I've already set it at a menu with a song playing (to store more temporary info), then shut it off. Holding that in memory should help it drain just a bit faster. Wish me luck.

It works plugged in and with my friends battery so the PSP itself isn't shot. But the battery is $40 and trade-in is $60 (so I can get $20 for this PSP now). With my battery, it'll save where the PSP was left off at when it was turned off, but it won't come back on.

I just find it damned odd that it was working fine before I pulled it out.

Tried that :/ Its almost seems as if pulling it out reset the charge level and it no longer correctly displays. Tried cleaning contacts, etc, but to no avail. Tried friend's battery and his pulled up again (so worst case, least its not my PSP). Meh... I'm just tired of watching him play his Slim on his 22" LCD and with a dead battery... my trade-in credit towards one is gone :x

Yesterday I loaded up Final Fantasy Tactics with my battery at 25% (had just charged from 3 percent)and was prompted to update my firmware. Since I couldn't update yet, my friend offered to let me use one of his extra batteries since it was "full charged". I inserted his but it read only 35%, having been drained from just sitting around or when it was in his old PSP.

Now the problem. I removed his and re-inserted mine... the light turned orange but now it only showed one bar as opposed to two (where it had been). I checked the charge level, 0% and charging. After letting it "charge" for about two hours, the light went green to indicate fully charged. Charge level? 0%. Now I know the battery works, if I pull the power out I still get a "low battery indicator". If I put it in "suspend" (instead of holding the button and shutting it off), it will save all the data for about 10m then when I start it, it will act as if it had been turned off.

I know this is likely a "dead battery" issue, but anyone have any ideas? ... I'm not looking for to a $40 battery replacement when GameStop is only allowing trade-ins for $60 >.
