I keep hearing about this ASUS, but it's just not available. It's about twice the price of the Alienware computer I'm looking at here. And since I do plan on getting another desktop again one day, it's just not practical to spend that huge amount of money :( Such a damn shame too. Looks good.

Hey skrat,

Thanks for the advice, and I did do some looking but unfortunately I can't seem to find those ASUS computers here. I'd need to import them into Switzerland and the price just skyrockets above what Alienware asks for.

Another concern is that I've heard that some people think Alienware is overpriced and uses shoddy hardware...

Oh and if this could be moved into the PC Hardware thread, then that would be great. Sorry, I must have made a mistake.

In less than a month, I'm moving back to New Zealand from Switzerland and my lovely desktop won't be making the trip with me. It's unlikely I'll be able to ship anything for a very long time either and circumstances will probably prevent me from buying a new desktop or consoles for quite a while.

As such, I'm thinking about investing in a laptop to continue scratching my gaming itch and thought that the Alienware M14x with the default setup would be acceptable.

(I understand the link is in German, but Dell doesn't provide the same technical specs as they would in the US. Change "ch" for "us" if you want to see what the US offers)

I've never used a laptop for gaming and I'd appreciate any advice you guys could give me.
Ideally, I'm looking for a computer that will allow me to play Space Marine when it's released and since there are no system requirements for the game yet, I have a feeling that anything I buy is going to be hit or miss. I'd prefer not to spend too much either, as moving back to New Zealand is going to expensive already.

Thanks so much for your help.

Playing Borderlands on my own? Yeah, quite simply because I have no one else to play it with. :P Hence the purpose of this thread.

Anyway, it was fun, but I'm sure it would have been more fun in a team...the drops were kinda average. But I made it to level 35 Hunter and finished the vault on my own, just played music in the background and sniped everything. :)

Hey guys,

I've always been a pretty dedicated gamer, but I've just never really gotten into multiplayer. None of my friends are really into video games, so I've never really had much incentive to get involved.
I get a feeling I'm missing out on a huge part of the service.

If anyone would like to add me, my PSN gamer tag is Mister_Inveigler

The games I have include Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands and a few others.

I'm usually online at 7pm Central European time (That's GMT+2) during the week and varies during the weekend.

See you guys online!

If anyone would like to add me, my Xbox live gamer tag is Catsi (pronounced Cats-eye...would like to change it, but shelling out 800MSP is a little rich for my blood.)

The games I have include CoD:MW, CoD:MW2, Gears 1&2, Brutal Legend, Rock Band 1&2, Castle Crashers, Dawn of War II (Windows Live), L4D, Overlord II and a few others.

I have a question. I'm 23, about to graduate with a BA in International Relations and yet I realise that one of the things I've always wanted to do is be a games designer, yet I don't know the first thing about programming or 3D animation. Is it possible to learn this skills, to the extent required by the industry, at home? Or would some sort of course be necessary? And if it is necessary, then what courses would people recommend? (I live in Europe) Though I guess my main question is...am I young enough to try and enter this industry? I think people who are already making games started a lot younger than I am. Any help anyone could give me would be great!
