The key thing the manufacturers and developers need to keep in mind is choice. Not everyone is able to see 3D and a significant amount of people suffer headaches when they try to watch anything in that format. This is far more important than how expensive the tech is to buy or how annoying the glasses are to wear, as those things will change over time. People getting ill as a result of the product will not. Ensuring that all TVs, PCs, Consoles and games give you a choice of 3D or 2D (and ideally allow you to flip from one to the other as and when you want) will give the medium the chance to grow and become popular. And that's assuming that they use the tech right, rather than just using it as a gimmick...
