The music helps create the atmosphere for the game. A bad OST can ruin a game, no matter how good the rest of the stuff is... Best OSTs I can think of off the top of my head: Metroid, Digital Devil Saga, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Vanquish, Persona 3... A game with a bad soundtrack: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (I know most people like it, I just found it boring...), Arc Rise Fantasia (It was awful and the voice acting sucked as well)...

True, most 3DS owners bought it because of what was promised... I did the same with the Wii a few years ago and Nintendo never delivered what was promised. Needless to say, I learnt my lesson and I'm not getting a 3DS until I see the stuff right there on the table. -.-

I think most developers don't care so much about the story because when there's a game with an AWESOME story and long cutscenes everyone cries about it... for example: Metroid Other M, Metal Gear Solid (Most of them)... And what some people I know do is just fastforwarding through the story text and skipping the cutscenes to get to the action quick, so once they finish the game they're like "oh that was a lot of shooting but I don't know why I was this guy's ally at 1st and then I had to fight him, this game makes no sense, it sucks" =p A great story can make any game enjoyable...
