A list of fighting games that I feel are the very best of the genre for both, their innovations (whether appreciated or not) and for how fun (most) of them are.

NOTE: Some of the games on this list are not so much fun or even that great of fighters, but even so their innovations and unique styles make them worthy of this list... after all this list is about the essentials of the genre and not by how good they all are.
