If you are talking about Otacon then I will have to say this... there is a lot of confusion about if otacon dies or not in MGS... when he says he will stay behind and let the place blow up with him he is talkin about the bombs that are coming but if you you beat the game correctly then you will see that Snake saves meryl and gets campbell to stop the bomb attack meaning Otacon never dies...
