The Suikoden series is really great!
Anyways, i think they should have stoped making final fantasies when Sakaguchi left.

When people get this worked up about final fantasy it usually means it's the only RPG series they've ever played...and say it's better than everything else. The guru thing is not even worth commenting. Anyways, this was suposed to be just people come in here say what they think and discuss it. Why doest it get all personal? Take it to PMs, it's not interesting to bystanders.
About the series as a whole: It's a consistenly good game series, you can usually expect a good game when it has the Final Fantasy name atached to it. The issue is that hey're ataching it to ANYTHING. FF XII can hardly be considered a final fantasy by my standards, yet it has the name.
Also, my personal problem with the series, and most square games, it's that the games are TOO EASY. And i really mean TOO EASY. I'm not gonna do a no-materia-low-level-no-limit challenge so that the games becomes a little harder, i want to have epic boss battles, die 10 times just to undersand how to kill it.
Okay, this isn't even debatable, but a note: FF X's graphics aren't even near thiking of getting near to XII's graphics. Now into my point:
The fact that you've decided to leave IX out of the debate because it couldn't live up to VII or VIII just makes all of this invalid. Not because you had a biased opinion and decided not to bring some main series final fantasy games, but because IX is probably one of the best final fantasies, which many people fail to see. Graphics, sound track and all the fruity things were the best anyone had ever seen on a final fantasy game for PS-1, the plot is definetely on par with the previous final fantasies, dealing with much more "human" themes than before, possibly making rise above the previous games, also it had a cast of likable and interesting characters (with exceptions, as always). Anyways, just making a point here...
Add Radiata Stories and the Tales series.
Final Fantasy has an above average standard of quality and that's why people like it so much. But FF XII for example, it's not so good but it still sells a lot due to it's name.
I think the Final Fantasy series is incredibly important because it turns people's attention to other franchises owned by SE, which are mostly good.
