@7tizz: Are you kidding??--did you see the timestamp on the story? I sold mine on craigslist an hour ago and gave him a Coumbia House deal on those stupid games... Battlefield/Destiny/Borderlands/COD/Battlefront/Far Cry---they're yours for a penny!!11!!ONE!!!1!! Why would I want to play games on my system of choice?!!!!?!!?!
Console wars ARE FOR REAL. I still see stories DAILY about "This game runs at 1080p on Sony, 900p on XBox." Dang, dude. Don't you need to rush over to CNN and write another story about the world running out of IP addresses?
Don't know if you knew this, but when you start "objectively reporting" the gaming news, you need to pledge your allegiance to one side or the other. And Sony is OBVIOUSLY the best place to play. It's not conscious or unconscious bias or unethical or anything as long as you say this at the beginning or the end. Or the middle:
McQ, I'm hoping this is an editor thing, but why is this story in the XBone news stream? This is at least the second instance of "Oh, you wanted to read about Xbox stuff?!!?! Everyone who likes shooters is buying a PS4!!!1!1!!!one!!!!
No matter the intention, it looks like payola/placement/promotion or at the very least overt and misplaced bias.
Edit: Or, of course, rewriting a Sony press release and being their complicit PR flak. THANKS FOR THE FREE GAMES, SONY, I'MMA GO AHEAD FELLATE YOUR SYSTEM NAO.
@Xenro4: Sound. I always suspect Target is doing this when they trot out B2G1 before December. I'm tempted to get Fallout 4 + Forza 6 + Someothergame for $120, but then.... that leaves me holding the bag when Just Cause 3 hits at $60, and I've forced myself to buy FIFA or some damn game just because it was part of the B2G1 sale.
I'mma wait too. The market's down, they've gotta try to blow these things off the shelf this Christmas.
@McStrongfast: Yes, yes. Notes of Nuts & Bolts, Minecraft, Anno, a number of fun games that don't necessarily need combat as their core focus. You could have games of tag, races etc. etc. to throw some excitement into multiplayer, but as we've all seen even multiplayer is becoming less competitive and catering more towards cooperative.
So the takeaway being: fewer guns and deathmatches and more tinkering, tweaking, traveling.
I think open-world sandbox stuff, minus the FPS trappings, is the wave of the future. People have to be sick of the 10 years of outright shooter dominance. It's why I paid too much money for Elite: Dangerous, why I want to pay too much money for No Man's Sky or evern Star Citizen.
Colonizing mini-planets in the sky a la Minecraft-meets-Anno-meets-I-donno-Civ? Sign me up. Walking Simulator isn't such an insult anymore. Now you can construct buildings and tweak vehicles etc. Like Gary's Mod with a point. Walking simulators (especially the kind that throw flight into the mix) are starting to come into their own.
Please God bring this kind of stuff to consoles and don't make them exclusives.
