I am a big fan of older PC arcade/puzzle/alternative often multiplayer games. I remember the times I played Micro Machines, Worms, Various Space shooters, even PC side scrollers, like Abuse and Black Thorn. It seems nowadays that at least 70% of all high profile games coming out on PC are SHOOTERS. Com'on! I enjoy games like UT3, Crysis, Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War as much as the next guy (or probably 1000x more), but this is getting sad. Really, what happened to horror games too? Alone in the Dark and others in the same vein.
That leads me to think that if developers weren'talways on massivepressureof producing enormous projects like Crysis and others we might have had the chance to play DX10 Side scrollers and Arcade Space shooters of uber pwnage. Imagine if individual developers or enthusiasts could get together and create gamesof more arcade/reflex/skills design... and sell them for less than 20-25$ via Open Minded producers.
Heh, to give you the truth this comes from personal frustration: I always wanted to make some sort of Mega Man with leet movement skills ala UT andthe previous Mega Mans... With cool effects like particles, shading, decent lighting and physics thatare soooo easier to code in the present day. Seriously, if you have good analyst skills, youcan leach code around without feeling guilty; at one point you don't feel bad for not RE-inventing the wheel.
This all come at a time where HTPCs are boosting in an exponential way. What is the price of 2-4 wireless gamepads that kick ass compared to the PC itself? Who doesn't have an HDTV or won't be getting one in the coming years?
Can I get opinions on this? Maybe I'm stuck in my world and that PC Gamers do really only want FPS, RTS andWestern RPGs. But I have this feeling, that's just not -- true.
PS Pardon me for the bad spacing but this issue can't be corrected by me. GS should take care of this glitch.
