Without any prior knowledge of this game or the prequel, it is very easy to write this series off as childish, but underneath this childish look is one of the most immersive, thought-provoking games out there. The story is incredibly well done and makes you crave to see the ending, which ends in a crazy twist that is hard to guess. While playing through the excellent story, the puzzles encountered are masterfully done and most provide a decent challenge to critical thinking skills. The mini-games and extra content are provided in large quantities and will having you playing them long after the game is finished. The characters are extremely well developed, especially from the first game, and this game only builds on their growing story and . The use of video enhances the already great story and is used in the most appropriate times for full effect on the main plot points and the videos are well animated. The music is another great thing this game offers. It fits the story and the moods at the best times, helping to pull a person into the story. The voice acting is also surprisingly good and the voices fit the characters well. In this game, as well as the first, the player will find to their surprise, this series leans more towards adult-themed plot lines than a story for children.

The game is not without some problems, though they are only very minor. Some of the puzzles are not entirely clear on what they are looking for as an answer, ending in some very confused moments on why the wrong answer is wrong, but after the answer is found, it becomes clear what the puzzle was looking for. This only happens on a rare occasion and is no where near enough to detract from this incredible game.

Overall, I not only recommend playing this game, but I recommend the first installment as an introduction into the wonderful world of the genius Professor Layton and his budding apprentice, Luke.
