The Pokemon games were the hit in 1996, when the great Red and Blue versions were out. And I mean hit like BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG HIT!!! In the time, I had 6 years when I bought this game for christmas, and I was hooked to hit like I wasn't to anything that time. I played it for hours and hours, and I just couldn't stop playing it. When I finally got every 150 Pokemon (2 years later), I just thought "Why not make a new game and do this ALL OVER AGAIN?" So I said ok... This is just for you to see how addicting the pokemon games were.
After these great games, we were waiting for the new Gold/Silver versions, and the wait was killing us. When they finally came, I bought it and started playing... WHAT THE HELL? The Pokemon game wasn't the same. Now it had colors, a pocket for each type of item, a POKEGEAR, a real use of the select button, and not least, NEW POKEMON! ... Holy S***! This game is AWESOME! It's ever better than the Red/Blue versions! I couldn't believe what was happening, because I never played a game like Red/Blue that caused me not to sleep just to play. This game was one of my favorites of the time, without a doubt.
After Gold/Silver, I was already expecting a third version, like the Yellow version. I was thinking "this game is maybe a waste of money, because it's basically the same game. I mean what are they gonna do to change it? Put another cute, popular in-the-anime Pokemon that will stay behind you the entire game instead of staying in the PokeBall? Gesh...". So I didn't bought it, I just let it go and sticked to my Silver version. A few years later, curiously, I was on the internet and found a Pokemon Crystal, brand new, 15€. I thought "Why not?" and bought the game, already knowing what to expect.
I'm still shocked about what I said about Pokemon Crystal. How insanely, idiotic, barbaricaly, stupidly and unbelievably wrong I was.

I mean, what I said is true. The gameplay didn't change a bit., the grafics are identical and the characters are the same, just like the Yellow version with Red/Blue. There is one thing: there's no pokemon behind you in Crystal... so, what's different?

There are some irrevelant changes, but still cool. One is when you encounter a Pokemon, it starts moving. This makes it kind of more realistic, makes the pokemon more alive, making them more than mere sprites that appear on the screen. Another one is the almost unnotable addition of color to the Pokemons. You may not notice it, but I do.

But what makes this game really different from the Gold/Silver version is the constant refferences to the three doggs: Entei, Raikou and Suicune. Suicune specially. Apparently, Suicune is searching for the challenge of his life. He finally finds you and thinks that you are a worthy challenger by the purity of your heart (I guess).
This game is also referring more to the mystical Unown Pokemon. The game now offers you an Unown-Dex, in which you record every type of Unown there is, from A to Z. But to be able to catch them all, you have to solve some puzzles, scattered around the Ruins of Alph.

Want to see more about it? Play it! You will not be dissapointed. This game is perfection in the Game Boy Color. This is the Ultimate game the console was waiting for. Hands down to the best Pokemon game, and unquestionably, One of The Best Video Games of All Time!!!
