Legend of Jack Sparrow feels rushed and incomplete but a fun game for all Johnny Depp and movie fans...

The movie franchise has raised a lot of expectation from fans all over the world with the new and official final chapter of the film to be released somewhere around the summer of 2007. And with the success of these movies, a big campaign in merchandising has been going on since the sequel “Dead Man’s Chest” hit the theaters. And so Universal launched the idea of making Jack Sparrow’s life into a videogame given the gigantic popularity this character gained.

The game starts in Spain with Jack and Will Turner raiding a castle in the middle of a jungle. Jack and Will are double-crossed and they are captured. Once they are about to be hang, Jack begins telling the story of how he got to where he was standing. Then it takes you back to Port Royal and the beginning of the mess with Captain Barbossa. Throughout the story Jack changes aspects of it in order to raise his ego and sometimes Will points out that what he is saying is lies, which is quite funny. The wit in the game’s dialog is very well done but feels lacking the spark that the movies have. Eventually you will arrive at several other locations that Jack invents to get himself out of a particular mess, like lying to Pequeño about the big Dragon’s Eye jewel that he had given Jack to sell to the Chinese.

At some moments Will and Jack will exchange words that will cause a laugh, like Will constantly pointing out that he was never in a particular location or simply saying that something Jack did was in reality impossible or “Highly improbable” like Jack would say.

The game is a basic Hack and slash game that pitches you against a dozen highly dim-witted soldiers and goons that occasionally fight back. The level of difficulty in the game is very easy, you’ll hardly break a sweat and this is due to the fact that Bosses are too easy and the combos that the characters do are too easy to execute and mostly repetitive. An Upgrade system is available to increase your character’s attributes and damage in his attacks but this to me in particular had no real effect as the enemies also grow in difficulty with you and the even so called sword upgrade, in comparison to the sword you start with only has a glowing effect that makes the difference.between the two. Finally what makes it even easier is the fact that you don’t seem to get a game over unless you’ve failed an important objective, if your character’s life gauge is depleted (which shouldn’t happen at all) it is refilled automatically making the death animation look like a long push-up.

Bottom line is that the developing team made a game that feels rushed as the animations do not look as good as they should and feels like it was made in a week. The only outstanding point is the fact that the voice of Johnny Depp gives the character it’s authenticity but even him feels like he didn’t feel the character like he did in the movies, and the other voice actors didn’t put much on their part either as Elizabeth sounds nothing like Kiera Knightly and Will sometimes sounds close to Orlando but not close enough. But if you manage to overlook that and ask if it’s fun, it is just don’t buy it, force the studio to make something of greater quality because the game doesn’t do justice to it’s license.
