Greatest RPG of ALL TIME! The only game I own that has had me playing it regularly since 1988!
Having beat it twice over the past 18 years, this is a game that keeps me coming back for more. The thrill of finding the Mirror shield and defeating Medusa with it... Finding the Laconian Armor/Shield/Axe/Sword... Pouring the elixir around Myau's neck on the statue of Odin... I just can't get enough of it.
At the time of this game's release, i seem to remember it being the first game to have a built in battery for storing game information for the SMS. My dad told me that, and that it had a 5 year life to it, but it's still going strong today. (perhaps i should look into whether that was true or not?)
The great graphic abilities of the SMS make this a much prettier game than any of the NES RPG's of that era, and the music adds greatly to the suspense when battling.
One of the drawbacks to many of those old RPG's was the fact that it took so long to walk places. This game takes place over 3 planets in the system, each with it's own different terrain. And so, for each of these planets, there is a different vehicle which suits it! There is the Hovercraft for the Green, Earth-like Palma, the Land Rover for the arid, Antlion infested Motavia, and the Ice Digger for the freezing Dezoris. These vehicles make travel quick and easy. The dungeons are incredibly hard if you are challenging them before your character is strong enough. (and even then, you can still fall victim to a character death or 2) This forces you to take your time with the game, and level your characters before proceeding.
I love this game, it's characters, and plot. I recommend it to ANYONE who likes a good, maze filled RPG!
