Blizzard has announced that it has taken active measures to penalize players who have been using online hacks and cheats for Warcraft III and Diablo II. More than 12,000 Warcraft III accounts and 131,000 Diablo II accounts have been closed because of the use of hacks and cheats. Additionally, more than 7,000 CD keys have been banned from ladder play for one month, and about 1,000 CD keys have been banned from ladder play permanently. Blizzard warns that repeat offenders may have their CD keys disabled from using Battle.net entirely, which would prevent them from playing any matches online, not just ladder matches. The company also stressed that no measures were taken against players who were falsely accused by other players.
