Atari today announced that Axis & Allies, developed by Kohan creators TimeGate Studios, has shipped to retail stores nationwide. The PC title is based on the popular strategy board game, but incorporates realistic 3D graphics and real-time battles as players attempt to re-create--or rewrite--history.

Players can control the armies of Japan, England, US, Germany, or Russia, forging their country's militaristic and financial destinies during the modern world's bloodiest war. Axis & Allies features three modes: campaign, custom game, and World War II. The modes alternate between turn-based movement on a large world map and real-time strategy battles when rivals clash. Axis & Allies also features online play with skirmish and instant-action modes.

Rated "T" for Teen, Axis & Allies has an SRP of $49.99. For more information, check out GameSpot's hands-on.
