Activision has announced that the development of the retail version of Day of Defeat is complete. The multiplayer action game set in Western Europe during World War II pits teams of Axis and Allied players against each other. While Day of Defeat originally debuted as a free mod for Half-Life, the retail version includes a number of improvements, including new maps, new character models, improved textures, a new particle system, and the option to play as British Allied soldiers rather than just as Americans.

Day of Defeat is the first game that will be published under Valve's new strategic partnership with Activision. The game will ship in May and have a suggested retail price of $29.99 and a Teen ESRB rating. For more details, check out our previous coverage of the game.
