User Rating: 5.1 | Pac-Attack SNES
Take Pacman... Take Tetris... try to merge the two games together and this is what you get. Pac Attack is a bold attempt at combining two very successful games into one game. While this combination is innovative, ultimately this game is troubled by the lack of variability and replayability. Gameplay: 5/10 In Pac Attack, you receive pieces that you drop into a chamber (like Tetris). The pieces in this case come with 3 different tile types: ghosts, walls, and of course, pacman. The tiles come in an arrangement of 3 each time, and you have the option of turning this arrangement around to suit your set up. The key is to get lines together and ghosts arranged in a way that allows Pacman to eat the most ghosts possible in any given turn. Pacman, when dropped, always proceeds down first (if possible) then left (if possible) then back right (if possible). Points are scored for ghost removal. Also, if a line is all the way across with wall tiles, those tiles will clear and award points. After a certain number of points, the level increases as does the speed. Where this game breaks down is that there are only 3 tile types. There is the occasional 'fairy' piece that clears more for you. But otherwise, it is a fairly simple game. Another weakness is that Pacman comes so often... like every 3 turns. This makes the game a bit to simple, particularly in the beginning. Graphics: 4/10 The graphics are very simple, as there is not much that needs to be designed in such a simple game. The game screen is colorful, though the drawings are not particularly stunning. There is not a lot of animation, although the animation for pacman eating the ghosts is pretty good. Sound: 7/10 The sound is very appropriate for the game. The fast paced music speeds up as the game progresses. Sound effects are present for the clearing of lines and ghosts. The only weakness to the music is that there is not a lot of variety in the music, nor is there an ability to chose what music you want. Reviewer's Tilt: 5/10 This is a game that I'm keeping only because I like to have variety in my puzzle game collection. This is a unique game with some interesting gameplay and strategy involved. But in the end, I did not have the patience to keep playing the game long.
