After 18 years, Sega-AM2 makes a sequal to the beloved racing arcade hit, Outrun.

User Rating: 7.9 | OutRun2 XBOX
Gameplay: Outrun 2 plays exactly like it's old counterpart. Except now, you explore completely different places, which have certain types of courses. You can choose any path you want, which usually leads to a short stages, but massive backround. Besides the Arcade port of Outrun 2, the XBOX version features many extras. There's a mission mode where you accomplish 101 easy-controlled, but challenging tasks. After you beat a certain number of missions, you'll unlock extras, such as more cars, more music tracks, and even more race courses. Basically, you try to impress your girl while driving, by doing tasks she asks you to do. If you do them successfully, you'll win her heart. Most of the extras in Outrun 2 are worth it. Other then the arcade and mission modes, among with the extras, that's pretty much what Outrun 2 offers. Outrun 2 doesn't really have a solid multiplayer though, which is sort of disappointing. However, Outrun 2 is compatible with XBOX Live. You can race up to 8 friends online. So, the gameplay of Outrun 2 is addictive, but isn't revolutionary. Graphics: All I can say is, beautiful. The stages have huge backrounds while driving through them. I sometimes find myself looking at the backrounds, rather then the road. The pop-up's are found very scarce in the game which makes the game move so real. The cars are well detailed, shiny, and reflect light rather well. The framerate remains stable throughout the game, except in some areas of the game where you'll be doing some tasks. But overall, Outrun 2 is a great looking XBOX racing game. Sound: The music is pretty catchy. Fans of the first Outrun will notice that the classic songs from the oringinal make a return in Outrun 2, in a remixed form. The classic songs sound even better then before. Not only that, you can unlock the complete oringinal songs from Outrun. The complete new songs are done well, and fit in with the game's style of play and looks. There are many unlockable remix versions for each of the 7 songs in the game. It's nice that you can choose any song you want when you race, but sometimes there's just too big of a decision to choose songs. Conclusion: Once again, Yu Suzuki, (Most famous for games like Virtua Fighter, Shenmue and the oringinal Outrun.) delivers a well developed sequal after all these years. Fans of thr oringinal Outrun will like this game even better. Although, the replay value isn't very long, This game will still appeal to any kind of old-school racing fan. But Today racing fans might be apealed to this as well. Give Sega a favor, and rent this game at least. Outrun 2 is at least a good weekend's rent.
