Surprisingly Satisfying Exeperience

User Rating: 8.5 | OutRun2 XBOX
Let me begin this review with a contradiction: I love this game, and think it's great to own, BUT, do yourself a favour and RENT this first. The nature of the gameplay is such that, alongside games like Midnight Club, and Burnout 3, some people will just not find it that interesting. For those people this will be a fun rental, and for others, a great buy. As with many geeks in my age bracket, I spent many a quarter (and then later, 50 cents!) on the original outrun in arcades. It was really one of a kind then, with bright graphics and pretty sharp gameplay. Besides, it was fun to blast along beaches and palm trees and with a blonde beauty in your ferrari. Basically OutRun 2 takes this simple principle and refines in, presenting it's simple, but fun gameplay in a very accesible package. As the Gamespot review indicates, the controls are simple, and really so is the game. However, like so many card and board games, it's very easy to learn, but hard to master. The nature of the game is such that finesse is truly rewarded, and there's a pretty good feeling that comes from blasting down a track in a variety of ferraris (pretty car, pretty caaaar) and powersliding JUST SO around a corner. OutRun 2 is all about basic, entertaining gameplay in a variety of lovely settings, in lovely cars, with lovely women. It's just... lovely! Give it a try, you won't regret the rental at least.
